In Nature Mixed Media Canvas

Hello there my lovelies!!!! Well I am sure most of you would have seen the latest 3Quarter Designs release over the weekend – Seasons Palette…… and all I can say is WOW!!! I thought for this collection I would create a mixed media canvas and I can see a lot of layouts being created with this collection too….. just stunning!

I was planning on recording my process with this project but silly me forgot to charge my phone first and then I didn’t realise that the video had stopped recording…. oops. Anyway I shall give you a quick tutorial on my canvas – So I used a 5×7 inch canvas and covered it using the paper with Hydrangeas on it.

I used a palette knife to scrape some black gesso around the edges. I painted the film strip chipboard from the collection, my resin frame and metal butterfly with black gesso. For the frame and butterfly I used Art Alchemy Waxes to add some colour.

Using the same patterned paper, I tore 2 strips using the lighter part of the paper and inked with Distress Archival Inks and adhere to both sides of the film strip. I also cut the quote strip at the bottom of the paper and mounted them onto the “Pine” photo mats.

I used alcohol inks to add colour to my glass pebbles (gold mixative and Valencia) and inked my cheese cloth using Art Anthology’s Minx Shimmering Inks – Decadent. Then I added my flowers and art stones.

Thanks for dropping by and I will be back with another project soon

For my tag I did use a chipboard tag and adhered “Flight” patterned paper. I applied some crackle medium to the background and then used Art Anthology’s Colorations Spray – Patience over the top. I then stamped a script stamp randomly over the sprayed area with black archival ink.

I the heart and word “Dreamer” are from the collections quotes and elements sheet. I applied some glossy accents to the word Dreamer. I used resin wings, key and stars and painted them with Art Alchemy Sparks paint and then highlighted with a wax.

I stamped the butterflies and coloured them using Distress Oxide Ink. To finish the tag I added an assortment of flowers, micro beads, art stones and sisal. I just love how this tag turned out.

Remember Today Altered Frame – Dusty Attic

Hello Everyone, today is my turn again on the Dusty Attic blog and I am sharing an altered frame I created. I recently taught this frame for the lovely ladies up at Bruce Rock here in Western Australia.Remember Today Frame by Farrel Tailor

I used a Kaisercraft frame and applied Stamperia sand texture paste for the base. Then covered the frame and all the chipboard with The Crafter’s Workshop Black Gesso TCW9002.

I sprayed some of the chipboard with Prima Color Bloom Sprays – Fir Needles and Magic Stone. Then I rubbed Nuvo Embellishment Mouse in Powder Blue and Seaspray Green over the top.

Mixed Media Gift Box – The Crafter’s Workshop

Hello there my wonderful followers!!! Today is my turn up on The Crafter’s Workshop blog.

With Mother’s Day only a few days away, I wanted to create a small gift box using some of TCW’s amazing products. There is also a video which will be at the end of the blog so please feel free to check it out xx

To start off I covered the whole small box with TCW9002 Black Gesso, then used my heat tool to dry.

Then I used TCW9004 Light and Fluffy Modeling Paste and TCW853s Circle Tile stencil and stenciled over the entire lid of the box. I used my heat gun to dry the paste and I LOVE how this paste puffs up when heated. It reminds of clouds.

Next I used a strong mixed media glue to adhere the resin moulds I made and also added some art stones for extra texture. Then I covered the box again with TCW9002 Black Gesso.

Once dry I then used some Art Alchemy Waxes to add the colouring to the box. To finish it off I used some Glass Glitter around the frame and face.

Thanks for popping in and I hope I have inspired you to create your own little gift box. I will be back real soon with another project xx

Love Always Layout – Dusty Attic Mood Board Challenge

Hello! Hello! Hello! I am back to share with you all my interpretation of this month’s  Dusty Attic mood board.

43952320_10216517091340983_6086288929848295424_o

I will not lie, I found the colours of this mood board quite hard as purple (any shade of it) is a hard colour for me to work with but I love pushing the boundaries and ended up having a lot of fun creating this layout.

Love Always Dusty Attic

For the patterned paper I used 7 Dots Garden Party – the colours matched the mood board perfectly. Along with flowers by Little Birdie and Plum Preserve Metallique Acrylic Paint by Finnabair.

Dusty Attic April Mood Board

The sketch grid stencil I used in the background is by The Crafter’s Workshop and I used Paper Texture Paste by Finnabair. I also added some art stones and beads to the flowers.

Love Always by Farrel Tailor

I covered the Geometric Panel pieces in black gesso and used Art Alchemy Waxes. For the Clockworks chipboard, I covered in white gesso and used the waxes and some archival inks and finally for the title I used archival ink on word “Always” after I painted the words in white gesso.

Happy Notes – Altered Notebook for Dusty Attic

Hey Everyone! Over at Dusty Attic we are doing Notebook November so today I am sharing my notebook using the November mood board as inspiration.

26056134_10214205909162873_7431268592972952500_n

For my notebook, I used the purple tones for my inspiration…. this was way out of my comfort zone as I very rarely use purples but I have to say I really enjoyed creating this. So here is my notebook…… oh and I forgot to mention there is a process video at the end of the blog if you would like to see how I created it.

Farrel Tailor Altered Notebook

I started off by painting my notebook and chippy pieces with black gesso. Then started to build all the layers and texture with stenciling, chipboard, Prima Melange Art Pebbles and art stones.

Farrel Tailor Notebook Dusty Attic

I used Prima Metallique Plum Preserves Acrylic Paint as a base coat and then used several Art Alchemy Waxes to add different tones. For the butterfly I used Prima Sparks Acrylic Paint in Butterfly Spells and Mermaid Sparkle. Then added some glitter glue for an added sparkle.

Farrel Tailor Happy Notes Dusty Attic

To finish off the notebook I added some micro beads in the copper but felt the colour was too strong so I toned them down with some black gesso. (I did this after I filmed)

Fright Night Halloween Layout

Hello everyone!!! Today I am up on the Dusty Attic Blog another Halloween project but this time it’s a layout. I had so much fun creating this layout, it was nice do something a little spooky!!!

Fright Night Halloween layout

For the base cardstock I have used one of the sheets from 49 and Market Rusty Autumn Collection. This purple was perfect for what I wanted to do. I stamped the cracks stamp with black archival ink and added some Art Alchemy Acrylic Paint in Metallique Fresh Orange.

I added white gesso around the edges of the photo and my chipboard pieces – Web Flourish and the small web from Spiders and Web set and adhered them to the layout.

Dusty Attic Fright Night layout

I applied black gesso to the smaller skeleton from the Skeletons pack and then lightly rubbed some Art Alchemy wax in the Brushed Iron. I also used this wax on the Web Flourish.

For the Page Pebbles #14 and Wordpl@y #6 I lightly painted the Art Alchemy Acrylic Paint in Metallique Fresh Orange and then covered the chipboard with black archival ink making sure I used a swiping motion so that the ink didn’t go into the grooves of the chipboard.

Spider close up Halloween layout

For my Redback Spider  I used the smaller spider from the Spiders set. I painted it with black gesso and used a red acrylic paint for the red line.  I also did the same for the smaller spider up on the top left hand corner using Spiders and Web set.

Dusty Attic Fright Night skeleton

For the chain I painted with black gesso and then applied Art Alchemy Waxes in Rich Copper, Bronze Age and Aged Brass. To finish off the layout I also added some stamping around the edges of the patterned paper using Kaisercraft Film Edges clear stamp set.
