Be Happy Layout for Dusty Attic

Hello there my creative friends!!! It’s that time again for another DT post for The Dusty Attic and today I get to share a layout I created as a class on a crafting cruise I was on a few months ago.

Be Happy Layout by Farrel Tailor

The papers I used are Dear Diary by Mintay and the flowers are from Prima Marketing Inc. The flowers I used Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magicals – Totally 80’s. I stamped the background using a prima text stamp.

Be Happy Dusty Attic Layout

I covered the clock, butterfly, script, doily and “sweet memories” with white gesso and then used the Totally 80’s magical to add colour. For the leaves, roman numerals and “Be Happy” chipboard, I left them raw and applied the magical directly onto them. I loved how the sparkle of the magical just intensified doing it this way.

I inked around the edges of the clock face with Black Soot ink and added some splatters using the magicals.

Love Always Layout – Dusty Attic Mood Board Challenge

Hello! Hello! Hello! I am back to share with you all my interpretation of this month’s  Dusty Attic mood board.

43952320_10216517091340983_6086288929848295424_o

I will not lie, I found the colours of this mood board quite hard as purple (any shade of it) is a hard colour for me to work with but I love pushing the boundaries and ended up having a lot of fun creating this layout.

Love Always Dusty Attic

For the patterned paper I used 7 Dots Garden Party – the colours matched the mood board perfectly. Along with flowers by Little Birdie and Plum Preserve Metallique Acrylic Paint by Finnabair.

Dusty Attic April Mood Board

The sketch grid stencil I used in the background is by The Crafter’s Workshop and I used Paper Texture Paste by Finnabair. I also added some art stones and beads to the flowers.

Love Always by Farrel Tailor

I covered the Geometric Panel pieces in black gesso and used Art Alchemy Waxes. For the Clockworks chipboard, I covered in white gesso and used the waxes and some archival inks and finally for the title I used archival ink on word “Always” after I painted the words in white gesso.

Christmas Tag – Dusty Attic

OMG can you believe it is December?!!! Where the heck has this year gone? Well today is my turn up on the Dusty Attic blog and I am sharing with you my interpretation of this month’s mood board….. and can I just say Wow!!! I love these colours this month, very rarely will I do anything with a Christmas theme. Not because I don’t like Christmas….. I LOVE Christmas but I find it is a busy time of year and photo’s are never how I like them but I thought I would change it up this year and create a Christmas Tag.

26167275_10214205909602884_1533054477810715677_n

I used a chipboard sheet and cut it to 3 1/4 x 6 1/4 inches. The first paper layer is a Basic Grey pp and the second is 7 Dots Studio – Cotton Candy range.

I tore up a piece of corrugated cardstock and dry brushed white gesso onto it. I adhered it and some cheesecloth to the tag. I also cut a silver and white paper straw in half and adhered it to the corrugated cardstock.

I used white embossing powder to cover my small string frame and Twisted Iron #2 chipboard and adhered them to the tag. I painted the flowers with Art Alchemy Metallique Light Patina acrylic paint and added some antique silver Glitzin’ Glamour to the center of the flowers before adhering to the tag.

Next I covered the Wordpl@y #5 with white gesso, making sure I get into the letters. Once dry I lightly covered the chipboard with some silver ink. Then to finish off the tag I added some art stones and pebbles as fillers and added a chalk spray in turquoise over the art stones.

Happy Notes – Altered Notebook for Dusty Attic

Hey Everyone! Over at Dusty Attic we are doing Notebook November so today I am sharing my notebook using the November mood board as inspiration.

26056134_10214205909162873_7431268592972952500_n

For my notebook, I used the purple tones for my inspiration…. this was way out of my comfort zone as I very rarely use purples but I have to say I really enjoyed creating this. So here is my notebook…… oh and I forgot to mention there is a process video at the end of the blog if you would like to see how I created it.

Farrel Tailor Altered Notebook

I started off by painting my notebook and chippy pieces with black gesso. Then started to build all the layers and texture with stenciling, chipboard, Prima Melange Art Pebbles and art stones.

Farrel Tailor Notebook Dusty Attic

I used Prima Metallique Plum Preserves Acrylic Paint as a base coat and then used several Art Alchemy Waxes to add different tones. For the butterfly I used Prima Sparks Acrylic Paint in Butterfly Spells and Mermaid Sparkle. Then added some glitter glue for an added sparkle.

Farrel Tailor Happy Notes Dusty Attic

To finish off the notebook I added some micro beads in the copper but felt the colour was too strong so I toned them down with some black gesso. (I did this after I filmed)

Living the Dream – Dusty Attic

Wow can you believe it is already AUGUST?!!! I seriously have no idea where this year has gone! So today I am up on the Dusty Attic blog with my interpretation of the August mood board and can I just say this month’s board is absolutely stunning!!! I used the colours for my inspiration and was lucky enough to have the perfect photo to match!!

26001040_10214205907762838_5480928651298618496_n

For my layout I am using some of the chipboard from the new release and Jen has done an amazing job creating these little beauties. I actually had to stop myself from adding more chippy!!!

Farrel Tailor Living The Dream

For all of my chipboard pieces apart from the wordpl@ay #1 piece, I applied a coat of white gesso and then added colours using various Prima inks and sprays. I also applied some inks to the Dusty in Bloom flowers.

Farrel Tailor Dusty Attic Chipboard

For my background I used a stencil and modeling paste to add some texture. I also heat embossed the frame around the photo and then added some highlights with inks.

Gift Set – The Crafter’s Workshop

Hey Hey Everyone!!!

Today I would like to share with you all how I created my own wrapping paper and card for a dear friend of mine.

To begin I started with the wrapping paper, for this I used plain white tissue paper. I mixed TCW9016 Spun Sugar Heavy Body Acrylic Paint with TCW9020 Raspberry Sorbet and TCW9024 Kale Smoothie Heavy Body Acrylic Paint.

I also mixed TCW9016 Spun Sugar Heavy Body Acrylic Paint with TCW9022 Grape Jelly Heavy Body Acrylic Paint to create the tones I wanted.

I also used TCW9018 Orange Slice and TCW9013 Iridescent Gold Heavy Body Paint as my other 2 colours. Next using the rough side of the tissue paper I applied my paints to TCW779 Wild Roses 12×12 stencil using a make up sponge.

I set it aside to dry, I didn’t use a heat tool as I didn’t want to burn the tissue paper and this is how it turned out.

Now for the card, I used TCW779 Wild Roses 6×6 stencil for my card and used washi tape to keep the stencil in place.

The tool I have used is from Kmart here in Australia and it is a make up sponge and brush. I found this was great as it has a tip on it. I used Distress Inks Spiced Marmalade, Picked Raspberry and Evergreen Bough as they were the closest colours I had to match the wrapping paper.

Then I added TCW9013 Iridescent Gold Heavy Body Paint to finish off the background.

I then stamped my sentiment using my Stamp Platform and a Heidi Swapp stamp set onto some white cardstock.

To finish off the card, I inked around the edges using Distress Ink Victorian Velvet and my blending tool. Then used foam dots to adhere my sentiment.

Thanks for dropping in and I hope I have inspired you to create your own wrapping paper for that special friend.
